The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is housed in the 1823 creole apothecary of America’s first licensed pharmacist, Louis Dufilho, Jr. (licensed 1816).  Visitors can explore two floors of exhibits highlighting the history of 19th Century pharmacy, medicine and healthcare in New Orleans. The historic courtyard also includes a medicinal herb garden which is another fascinating insight into the huge evolution modern medicine has undergone.

- Hand-blown apothecary bottles over 200 years old

Fun Facts:

• Louis J. Dufilho, Jr. was America's first licensed Pharmacist

• Gris Gris bags were bags used to carry potions and protect the carrier from evils and to bring good luck

• This New Orleans pharmacy played an important role in the change that led to a legalization of licensed pharmacies
